Answers for real estate agents
Real estate agent Google Maps and AI visibility statistics (2026)
Short answer
- In 36% of Google Maps scans the agent appeared nowhere on the grid; the median agent shows in the three-pack at only 4% of points.
- ChatGPT named the agent in 44% of "best real estate agent in {city}" prompts and left them out entirely in 56%.
- Agents with a strong map position were named by ChatGPT 3 times out of 4; agents with a weak one, 2 times out of 8.
Most real estate agents are invisible on Google Maps in their own town, and ChatGPT skips more than half of them when a buyer asks for the best agent nearby. Top Real Estate Systems ran 74 ranking scans on 30 real estate agent and team Google Business Profiles across 20 states between 26 September and 15 October 2026. Every number on this page comes from those scans. The sample is small and the method is at the bottom.

How many real estate agents show up in the Google map pack?
In the TRES sample, 30% of agents (9 of 30) never appeared in the Google map pack at any point of their scan grid, on any keyword. Another 23% (7 of 30) appeared somewhere, but their best keyword still put them in the map pack at fewer than 10% of grid points.
Only 5 of 30 agent profiles (17%) reached a Share of Local Voice of 50% or more on any keyword. Share of Local Voice is the percentage of grid points around the office where the business appears in the top three map results; a 7×7 grid covers 49 points across the agent's service area.

What is the average Google Maps rank for a real estate agent?
Where the agent appeared at all, the average rank across the grid was 8.0 and the median 7.3. That is page two of the map list, and buyers rarely scroll past the three-pack. Across all 45 Google scans, including the ones where the agent was missing, the median Share of Local Voice was 4%.
On the generic search "real estate agent" with a 7×7 grid (17 agents), the average Share of Local Voice was 27% and the median 16%. Branded teams with a staffed office and 50 or more reviews made up most of the top of that list.
| Google Maps result | Scans | Share of scans |
|---|---|---|
| Agent not found at any grid point (TRES scans, 2026) | 16 | 36% |
| Found, but Share of Local Voice under 10% (TRES scans, 2026) | 12 | 27% |
| Share of Local Voice 10–49% (TRES scans, 2026) | 12 | 27% |
| Share of Local Voice 50% or more (TRES scans, 2026) | 5 | 11% |
How often does ChatGPT recommend a specific real estate agent?
ChatGPT named the agent in 8 of 18 "best real estate agent in {city}" prompts (44%), and named them in every answer across the 3-point grid in only 4 of 18 (22%). In 10 of 18 prompts (56%) the agent was not mentioned at all.
Gemini named the agent in 1 of 6 prompts and Google AI Mode in 2 of 4. Those samples are too small to generalize from; they are reported because they were run the same way as the ChatGPT prompts.
Does ranking on Google Maps predict being named by ChatGPT?
Yes, in this sample. Of the 4 agents with a strong map position (a Share of Local Voice of 50% or more on "real estate agent"), 3 were named by ChatGPT. Of the 8 agents with a weak map position (under 20%), 2 were named.
AI assistants lean on the same signals the map pack does: a complete Google Business Profile, reviews, a consistent name and category across directories, and pages on the web that describe the agent. An agent who fixes the map problem usually improves the AI problem at the same time. How AI assistants pick which agents to name covers the mechanism.
How many Google reviews does a typical real estate agent's profile have?
Among the 10 profiles TRES pulled full details for, the median review count was 21.5, the average 32.8, and 3 of 10 had fewer than 10 reviews. Nine of ten held a 4.9 or 5.0 rating, so the star rating does not separate agents; the review count and how recent the reviews are do.
Profiles used an average of 2.9 categories. Two of the ten had no public address (a service-area setup with the address hidden), and both scored zero at every grid point in their scans. Two profiles is not proof, but it matches what TRES sees on client accounts: a hidden address narrows where Google will show an agent. Google's guidelines, not ranking, decide whether an agent may show an address; the address-or-service-area rule explains when each setup is required.
Why does this matter for a real estate agent?
Nearly every transaction still runs through an agent. In the National Association of REALTORS 2025 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 88% of home buyers purchased through a real estate agent or broker, 91% of sellers sold with one, and only 5% of sales were for-sale-by-owner, an all-time low. The question is never whether a buyer will use an agent; it is which agent's name they see first.
A map pack and an AI answer each show two or three names. Being one of them decides who gets the call. Two measured benchmarks from outside real estate show how the AI side behaves where it has been studied: Ahrefs found AI search made up 0.5% of its traffic but 12.1% of its sign-ups (Patrick Stox, Ahrefs, June 2025, a B2B software sample), and AirOps found that 85% of brand mentions in AI search come from third-party sources, in an analysis of 21,311 brand mentions across ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity (AirOps, 2026, a software-company sample). Neither figure is a projection for an agent.
What should a real estate agent fix first?
Fix the Google Business Profile before anything else: set "Real estate agent" as the primary category, fill every service and description field, follow Google's rule on showing an address versus a service area, and get reviews flowing with a public review link. In the TRES scans, every agent with a strong map position had 50 or more reviews.
Then make the web agree with the profile: the same name, brokerage, category and town on Zillow, Realtor.com, FastExpert, Yelp, Apple Maps and the agent's own site. AI assistants read those third-party pages more than they read the agent's homepage. How to set up and run a Google Business Profile walks through the profile step by step.
What the agents with a strong map position had in common
- 50+ reviewsEvery agent at 50% or more Share of Local Voice had more than 50 Google reviews.
- A staffed officeA visible, staffed office address, which Google's guidelines allow only when clients are received there.
- One consistent nameThe same name, brokerage and category on Google, Zillow, Realtor.com and their own site.
How was this data collected?
Top Real Estate Systems ran 74 scans through Local Falcon between 26 September and 15 October 2026 on 30 real estate agent and team Google Business Profiles in 20 U.S. states (AZ, CA, FL, IA, LA, ME, MI, MN, MO, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA). The profiles belong to TRES clients and to agents who requested a free AI Visibility Report; results are reported only in aggregate. The sample is agents who sought help with their visibility, so it likely runs below the national average. Treat the figures as a floor, not a norm.
Google Maps scans used 5×5, 7×7 or 15×15 grids centered on the profile and keywords such as "real estate agent," "realtor," "realtor near me" and "real estate agent {city}." Where a profile and keyword were scanned more than once, only the most recent scan is counted. AI scans used a 3-point grid with prompts such as "best real estate agent in {city}" on ChatGPT (18), Gemini (6), Google AI Mode (4) and Google AI Overviews (1). Average Rank Position counts a missing result as 21. Share of Local Voice is the share of grid points where the profile appears in the top three. Questions people ask about these statistics
What is Share of Local Voice?
Share of Local Voice is the percentage of points on a map scan grid where a business appears in the top three Google Maps results. A 7×7 grid has 49 points; a business shown in the three-pack at 10 of them has a Share of Local Voice of about 20%.
What percentage of real estate agents does ChatGPT recommend by name?
In the Top Real Estate Systems sample of 18 "best real estate agent in {city}" prompts run in September and October 2026, ChatGPT named the agent in 44% of prompts and omitted them entirely in 56%.
How many Google reviews should a real estate agent have?
The median agent profile in the Top Real Estate Systems sample had 21.5 reviews. Every agent with a strong map position had more than 50. The number of reviews and how recent they are matter more than the star rating, since nearly every agent holds 4.9 or 5.0.
Does hiding the address hurt a real estate agent's Google ranking?
In the Top Real Estate Systems sample, both profiles with a hidden address scored zero at every grid point. Google decides whether an agent may show an address: only agents who receive clients at a staffed office may show one, and everyone else must set a service area. An agent who must hide the address makes up for it with reviews, complete categories and consistent listings.
